Church Goals

In Matthew 16:18 Jesus Christ said, "I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

I. TO BRING GLORY TO GOD
Ephesians 3:21 says "Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end."

II. TO GROW

A. In strength - In Ephesians 4:11-16 Paul makes it clear that the Lord desires strong, mature Christians.

B. In Size. The universal church, which is made up of every believer on the planet, is not only to grow in strength but in size as well. Ephesians 2:19-21 uses the metaphor of a building to describe God's people. Chapter 2:21 indicates this building “grows.” It grows stronger, as we have just seen, but it also grows in size as new people (“bricks”) are added when they receive Christ as their Savior.

III. TO BE PURE
Ephesians 5:26-27 says Christ gave Himself for the church “that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the water by the Word, that He might present it to Himself a glorious church not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing but that it should be holy and without blemish.”

IV. TO HAVE A SPIRIT OF HUMILITY IN OUR LIVES AND IN MINISTRY
“God resists the proud but gives grace unto the humble.” James 4:6
“Therefore, let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” 1 Corinthians 10:12.

V. TO HAVE A SPIRIT OF COOPERATION WITH ONE ANOTHER WITH AN ATTITUDE OF “CAN DO PROBLEM SOLVING
"Submitting yourselves on to another in the fear of God." Ephesians 5:21"Let love be without dissimulation." (hypocrisy) Romans 12:9
"But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy." James 3:17

VI. TO COMMUNICATE HONESTLY, CLEARLY AND OFTEN WITH ONE ANOTHER.
“But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into Him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.” Ephesians 4:25.
“Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members of another.” Ephesians 4:25
